What are Assistance Listening Devices?

Assistive Listening Devices (ALDs) are devices designed for making the life of people with hearing impairments easier. ALDs can both be used alone and be used supplementary to hearing aids. ALDs distributed by Widex Hong Kong come in different styles and functions, including alarming, telephoning, leisure, and daily communication. Here are some common types of ALDs: -

FM Systems
FM Systems, including personal FM systems and sound field systems, are typically used in educational settings as well as at work and in leisure time. The person speaking talks into a transmitter; and the sound is then sent as a wireless signal to the listener‘¦s receiver (personal FM systems) or speakers (sound field systems).

Alarm Systems
Alarm systems are typically used by the hearing-impaired at home. Alarm systems can transform doorbell, telephone bell, alarm clock, smoke alarm, or baby alarm into louder sounds, vibrations, or flash lights. These systems can help people stay informed, maintain security and enjoy better communication.

Other Devices
Other commonly-used ALDs include loop systems and amplifying telephones. A loop system transfers sound from a transmitter, mounted for example on a television, via electromagnetic waves to a hearing aid with telecoil function. Special telephone that can amplify sounds by making use of the telecoil in the hearing aid can also make communication easier.
