Hearing Aids

Accessories
Properly functioning hearing aids are of significant benefit to persons with hearing loss. However, some accessories may be helpful to get the full advantage of the hearing aids.
Batteries
Battery Tester
Drying Agent
Disinfectant
Pump
Wax Guard CeruSTOP

Batteries
Batteries come in different sizes and types. The most common type of batteries used by hearing aid users is zinc air batteries. Zinc air batteries have high energy density, they are affordable, and used batteries have little impact on the environment. Battery drain for individual hearing aid depends on the output level. Therefore, battery drain cannot always be specified exactly. To use the battery, you have to remove the sealing label covering the contact surface. Unused batteries should be stored in cool and dry places. The four sizes of hearing aid batteries are listed below:
Size

Hearing Aid Style(s)
675 Blue
BTE
13 Orange
BTE, ITE
312 Brown
ITE, CIC
10 Yellow
CIC

Battery Tester
Battery tester is used for testing battery levels. To test a piece of battery, insert the battery into the slot. High battery level is indicated by bright light. When the light diminishes, you should replace the battery and dispose the used one.

Drying Agent
Drying agent is capable of removing the moisture in the hearing aid, so as to lengthen its life. To perform the dehumidifying procedure before you go to bed, turn off your hearing aid and remove the battery. Put your hearing aid (together with your earmould) into a small jar with drying agent, and then close the cap tightly to keep the jar air-tight. You can put the battery and use the hearing aid again in the next morning. Do remember to replace the drying agent regularly to ensure its proper functioning.

Disinfectant
Disinfectant is capable of removing dirt and bacteria accumulated on the earmould or the shell of hearing aids. To clean your earmould, spray the solution onto the earmould and then wipe dry. For ITE and CIC hearing aids, spray the solution onto tissue or soft towel and then wipe clean.

Pump
In order to keep the earmould clean, the earmould should be cleaned thoroughly once a week. To clean the earmould, you can put the earmould with the tube in a bowl of water with mild detergent, and then rinse it in running water after soaking for 10 minutes. After wiping the earmould with soft cloth, use the pump to remove the water in the tube. When the earmould and the tube get completely dry, you can mount them on the hearing aid again.

Wax Guard CeruSTOP
Wax guard is a small plastic cap mounted in the sound outlet of ITE and CIC hearing aids for protecting the hearing aid against intrusion by earwax. The wax guard should be cleaned with the cleaning tool supplied with your hearing aid, and be replaced regularly.
